Irwin Kula Appointed Rabbi of Team USA for the 18th (Chai) World Maccabiah Games

Rabbi Irwin Kula has been appointed Rabbi of Team USA for the 18th (Chai) World Maccabiah Games. About 10,000 athletes from more than 60 countries will compete in the
Games, with close to 1,000 athletes from the United States. The Maccabiah Games are one of the world‘s three largest international sporting events.

Held in Israel from July 12 – 24, 2009, the Maccabiah Games are an extraordinary Jewish experience — they are a celebration of Jewish life, sports, culture, unity
and pride. Started in 1932, they are a test of might not only of the athletes, but of the enduring force of the Jewish people. Despite war, political unrest, and
economic strife, the Games are a testament to the power and the spirit of the athletes, and the fortitude of Jews, who since Judah Maccabee, have found strength in each
other and in keeping Judaism alive.

Maccabi USA is the official organizer of the United States teams that compete in international Maccabi events — the World Maccabiah Games in Israel, the Pan
American Maccabi Games, the European Maccabi Games and the Maccabi Australia International Games. Past participants include Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Spitz.
