Rabbi Irwin Kula at the Chief of Chaplains Annual Religious Education
Training Conference in Orlando, FL, Jan. 27-28

	From January 27-28,
Directors of Education from military installations from across the country
will gather in Orlando, Florida for the Chief of Chaplains Annual Religious
Education Training Conference. But this year, for the first time ever, a
rabbi will be the keynoter. Irwin Kula, CLAL President, has been invited to
speak to the group of more than 60 religious educators, none of whom are
Jewish. The religious educators are charged with supporting people of all
faiths, and act as a resource in their spiritual formation.

“The military is one of our most diverse institutions,” said Irwin Kula. “It
is on the cutting edge, wrestling with how to create a community with all
different types of people.” In his keynote he’ll look at how the armed
forces can help people support their individual commitments while remaining
engaged in the wider world. “The military provides a model for
society-at-large. It offers a great example of pluralism, with everyone
bringing their own customs, cultures and traditions to a uniform
institution.” Part of his address will consider how one‘s particular wisdom
tradition can be translated into a usable idiom for all. The conference will
also hold a screening of his film, Time for a New God.
