Mission to Odessa and Israel
In late October, Rabbi
Hirschfield traveled to Odessa and Israel in his role as spiritual guide for
the United Jewish Communities’ Flight Initiative, a program designed to
inspire young Jewish philanthropists. The trip provided participants with a
first-hand opportunity to see how they can make a difference improving the
lives of those in need, as well as to learn about the success stories
resulting from Jewish support. In Odessa, a city with few Jews left, a
burgeoning Jewish life has begun, with new institutions and a growing
population. The trip concluded in Israel, the place of Jewish power and
possibility, in which the wisdom and experience of American Jews is critical
to building an inclusive community.
